A curious detail concerning the Latabár family, which was one of the most renowned acting dynasties in Hungary, is that each member of this Jewish family was an outstanding comedian. In the late twentieth century, the sixth generation went on stage and achieved great success.

Árpád Latabár Jr.’s mother, Ilona Déry (Deuts Honor), was from Sátoraljaújhely.
The “young Árpád” (1902–1970) was born in Sátoraljaújhely and began to appear on stage at the young age of 16.

Árpád Latabár Jr., “the tall Latyi,” was a popular star in the theater world owing to his humor and gift for physical comedy. He performed for audiences in his home town on many occasions.

In honor and memory of Árpád Latabár Jr., the theater and cinema in Lajos Kossuth Cultural Center were named the “Latabár Theater” and “Latabár Cinema.”

A memorial plaque on the wall of the theater also commemorates the famous comedian.
